Working Basic Obedience With Distractions
Our joke about the word “STAY”. Stay is a word people use subconsciously to lie to themselves about the inadequacies in their training. What exactly does this mean? Saying “Stay, Stay, Stay…” over and over as you back up 6-10 feet isn't teaching the dog to “Stay”, it's teaching the dog a game. If you don't have a release word/command like “Okay”, “Free”, “Break” then stay will NOT ever matter. This is why we use and train implied commands. Implied commands is that the dog should hold that position/command until released from whatever position/command you gave them originally. What do you do everyday to hold your dog accountable and how do you follow through to achieve it? *we do not own the rights to this song*

Explaining “Heel” Position And When To Correct
Remember if you give a command follow through with that command, and stay consistent for results. Don’t forget that “Heeling” is still a command with a position that your dog needs to be in when you give that command. And if you give a command there needs to be a release word “Okay”, “Free”, etc. so that your dog knows when that command ends just like with any other command you give them. “Heeling” is not just walking on a leash, your dog needs to match your tempo, your pace, and know where they are supposed to be at all times while moving with you. *we do not own the rights to this song*

Working On Long Distance Recall
Everyone wants their dog to respond to them off leash when they call them. It should be a goal for EVERYBODY who owns a dog to have them under control in case they get out of our reach. The most important thing is that your dog eventually learns to hear a recall and respond consistently without fail in ALL potential situations it may be needed. There is ALWAYS time to train! NO EXCUSES! *we do not own the rights to this song*

Long Distance Recall At It’s Finest
Emergency recall is just a marketing ploy! A recall is a recall, you build a strong foundation with a clear expectation of what you want and you build that through consistency and repetitions. Once you get that foundation you then start working it in areas with increased distractions to proof the reliability of the command. The final key to it is if you use the recall command you need to have the dog complete the command to your expectations every time. Do NOT water down that command, but not following through and changing your expectation when they recall, ie: using the recall when you’re walking and expecting them to “heel” back to you instead , or using a recall when you want them in your area but don't care what they do, or using a recall when you want them to jump in your lap on the couch. Your dog becomes CONFUSED and they start to ignore the command you are trying to build. If your dog is supposed to come to you and sit, then don’t say the command while you are moving away from them and have no intention of following through with it because you will teach them a new acceptable behavior. Don't fall for marketing ploys, there is only way to have reliable commands and that is through consistent training and follow through. *we do not own the rights to this song*

Monthly Group Practical Application Session
We love doing this blind fold training exercise with our clients and their dogs. This drill might seem silly to do, but it really does "open your eyes" and your mind to focusing on your other senses when training your dog, and NOT always relying on using your eyes and watching what your dog does. This is a great bonding exercise too for your dog to gain trust with you! *we do not own the rights to this song*
